Check out this modern stenciling technique with layers of color and style.
One way to modernize stenciling is to start with a decorative finish. To create the same look we did here, follow the strie instructions to start this project. Or, choose another decorative finish as your starting point.
Protect the work area by spraying the adhesive onto the back of the first layer of the stencil against a drop cloth or poster board. Spray adhesive is like tape; it holds the stencil in place, but allows it to peel off easily when done. Put the stencil in the desired position on the wall.
STEP 1 : Apply the First Layer of Paint
Less paint is more in stenciling, so barely graze the top of the brush over the surface of the yellow paint (artist acrylic provides more coverage than regular paint), and brush off the excess onto a rag. The small amount of paint, along with a dabbing motion around the edges, helps alleviate bleeding underneath the stencil.
STEP 2 : Repeat the Process
There’s no need to wait for the paint to dry when done; just peel the stencil off carefully. If no paint has seeped underneath, position the stencil elsewhere on the wall and repeat the process. The spray adhesive should stick for two or three uses. Wash both sides of the stencil every few uses to remove paint/adhesive, and dry thoroughly. Repeat until done, and let paint dry thoroughly.
STEP 3 : Apply the Second Layer of Paint
For layered stencils, it’s critical to line up the pattern perfectly. Use cosmetic wedges to add red for the next layer of color. The wedges provide more control of the paint in small areas. Let dry thoroughly.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to repair holes in a plaster wall.
STEP 1 : Damaged Areas With a Scraper
The first step is to prep the area by removing any loose or flaking plaster. Use a cold chisel and and ball pein hammer to chip away the damaged plaster and us a scraper to scrape away excess debris. Take care not to hit too hard with the hammer as it could damage the wood lath behind the plaster.
This process might make the hole larger, but will give you a clean area in which to apply the new plaster.
STEP 2 : Mix New Plaster
Once the surface preparation is complete, mix up only the amount of plaster needed for the repair. Follow the instructions on the packaging to ensure the proper mixture. Mix it to the consistency of cake frosting.
STEP 3 : Apply the Plaster Mix to the Damaged Area
Apply the mixture with the 10″ wallboard knife and spread a 1/4″-inch layer over the hole. Cross-scratch the first coat as it begins to set to allow the second coat to adhere well.
If needed, apply drywall/plaster tape to the wall to fill in larger, bumpy areas. First, apply a thin layer of plaster or joint compound and then apply the tape. Apply more plaster or joint compound mixture over the tape and use the drywall knife to smooth the surface until it’s even with the wall, pressing to remove pockets of air and plaster/drywall mud from beneath the tape.
Once the first layer has dried, apply a second layer. Apply another 3/8″- to 1/4″-inch layer and cross-scratch as you did the first time. Allow it to dry thoroughly before you continue.
STEP 4 : Apply Joint Compound
After the second layer has dried, mix joint compound according to the manufacturer’s instructions and apply it very thinly using the 10″ wallboard knife. Blend the layer into the wall and allow it to dry.
STEP 5 : Sand and Paint
Sand the area smooth with the sandpaper block, then prime and paint.

You will have to decide on a new color scheme before you paint your bathroom. The best method is to choose three colors in lighter and darker shades that go well together. Find a color you like and then choose a second color that is at least two shades lighter and a third that is two shades darker. You can choose lighter versions of the same color or choose three complimentary colors for some variety. You will use the different shades of paint color to create dimension in the room, drawing some walls or parts backward and some forward.
HOW TO USE LIGHT & DARK PAINT COLORS TO MAKE SMALL BATHROOMS LOOK BIGGER
You have probably heard to only use light paint in small spaces because dark colors make the room look smaller. While this can be true if you paint the entire bathroom or large areas of walls in a dark color, the darker tones can work if you use them properly.
The misconception that dark colors make a wall look closer while light colors make it look further away is not entirely accurate. To understand this, think about shadow and how it naturally gives depth to a scene. Try to paint a picture using all light colors and the scene looks flat.

Whether you’re looking to paint the outside of your home to boost curb appeal or to cover up some fading or blemishes, it’s important to understand just how large of a job you’re looking at. Often times, it makes the most sense to hire a professional. You’ll save a lot of time, and you’re sure to have quality results. But what can you expect for costs?
Characteristics of Interior and Exterior Paint
Interior and exterior paints have similar solvents and pigments; however exterior paint may contain more pigment. To understand the difference between interior and exterior paint one needs to understand paint chemistry.
Characteristics of Exterior Paint:
Thus though the interior and exterior House Painting In Melbourne look similar, they are differentiated on the bases of their properties, purpose and uses and hence one cannot be used in place of another. I.e. you can’t use interior paints on exterior surfaces and vice versa
Professional painters provide estimates primarily based on the square footage of your home. The most significant cost is labor, followed by paint and materials.
The average interior House Painting In Melbourne project will cost between $450 and $760. The square footage of the room, local labor cost, ceiling height, the complexity of the trim work, type of paint and special finishes requested all affect the average total cost estimate.
Measuring your home interior
Just grab a yardstick or tape measure. Take the length of your wall (measured in feet) and multiply it by the wall’s height. Then, add the measurements of each wall together.
Interior paint types include:
- Matte enamel
While most professional painters now use paint sprayers for their speed and ability to coat evenly, the quickest and most effective way to apply exterior paint yourself is with a paintbrush and a roller.
TOP 6 EXTERIOR HOUSE PAINTING IN MELBOURNE TIPS
Painting your home’s exterior is one of the fastest, most affordable ways to make a high-impact change to its appearance. If it’s been years since you’ve done any exterior painting, you may be surprised by the new choices in modern coatings and tools. Some things haven’t changed, however, such as taking the time to do the job right.
How to Choose Exterior Paint Finishes
Buy the best paint that you can afford, as it will last longer and cover more easily. Paints with light sheens, such as satin or eggshell, are easier to clean and more resistant to fading than flat or matte paint.
Water-based latex and oil-based alkyd are the two main types of paint for exteriors. Acrylic latex paints are the most common choice, but oil paint is good for wooden steps and porch floors, as well as steel and wood railings.
Save time and hassle by hiring a Painting Contractor
House exteriors are exposed to constant and differing weather conditions and climates so they need some additional considerations from painting a house interior.

Prepare exterior walls for painting to achieve the best finish. Watch the how to prepare exterior walls for painting video for tips.
Always take safety precautions when painting exteriors.
We always recommend painting from the top down, beginning with the gutters.
Once the gutters are complete move onto the fascia (the board under the gutter) and eaves (the section between the fascia and wall). We recommend painting fascias and gutters with brushes rather than small paint rollers.
Next, move onto the walls. The equipment required here is dependent on the nature of the surface you’re painting on. If you’re painting anything other than weatherboards you’ll need to add a few additional materials.
Finally, paint the trims and windows.
Replace pot plants, hoses and any items that make your newly paint house a home! Enjoy!

How to House Painting In Melbourne an Ombre Wall
A fresh color of paint can totally change the look of a room. Remember that lighter colors typically make a room look bigger. Brighter colors are often energizing, but can be a little too intense for something like a child’s bedroom or a room that you want to have soothing activities like sleep. But today’s “rules” about painting are much different than they were even 10 or even 5 years ago, and just about any color that you “love” is certainly okay to use if you want to give it a try!
Paint Vertical Stripes
Want to make a room look larger? Try painting vertical stripes in the same color, one shade lighter and the other a little darker.
